Taxonomy of hog-nosed skunks is based on Dragoo et al. (2003) and Schiaffini et al. (2013). Spotted skunk taxonomy is based on Floyd et al. (2011), Ferguson et al. (2017), Shaffer et al. (2018), Bell (2020), and McDonough et al. (in press).
